"A Night of Star-gazing"
I love the way God packages/wraps my gifts. He keeps me on my toes. I love the moments of revelation...those ah-ha moments that leave me speechless.
A couple of years ago I created a homemade birthday gift for my husband that included over 200 encouraging love notes and tasks. His directions were not to draw another until the one drawn was completed. Well, on this particular love task, he was instructed to "enjoy a night of stargazing." Nice huh? tough part was he drew it in the middle of cold nights in late fall. It was posted to the refrigerater as a reminder that we had a "love task" to complete. Weeks would go by and everytime I looked at it, I would wonder when the night would fall and would be able to complete it...longing to lay under the stars with my "Mr. Right."
After being blessed to be a Stay-at-Home-Mom in October of this year, I have been frequenting the Teacher's Tools store and Madel's Christian Books Store...total favs! On one particular day the whole family went to find some goodies for our little, Jada. We ran across a little gem; a bag of glow-in-the-dark stars with adhesive to place them wherever you desired. I was suddenly overcome with a happy memory of my personal galaxy in my childhood bedroom, above my bunk bed. My mother was constantly doing whatever she could do to keep us both busy and entertained. I could easily recall the nights I laid awake wondering and dreaming "under the stars" and how calm it would make me before bed. I shared a room with a younger sister and some nights we would whisper about random thoughts. I would be able to forget all that happened that day.
My husband was also taken back to childhood. We grabbed a few bags as we swapped memories all the way up to the cash register and home.
It was placed on the "honey-Do" list and I quickly prepared the stars by placing all the adhesive squares on the back the next day. I laid them out on the table for "Mr. Right" to see after work. It became an activity that Daddy and Daughter were able to complete together. I prepared dinner and smiled over their giggles and fun they were having in the next room. "Ah, tis sweet," I thought.
We shared in some homemade goodness and I got Jada prepared for bed. There was a bounce in her stride to her bed that night. She wanted to see her stars glow! Jason layed her down while I tidied up in the kitchen. I could hear her high pitched squeals and I imagined lots of smiles as the room darkened and her eyes adjusted. Moments later I could hear them calling me to join them. "Mama." "Shai." I was honored to partake in the Daddy-Daughter moment. I laid down on my back next to "Mr Right" and peaked at our Little Princess happily squirming in her bed. We even the little and big dipper and Orion's belt. It was a precious moment.
It was in that moment that God spoke to me. "Enjoy your night under the stars." Yes. There were some sweet tears. Because it is moments like that where God always reminds me that He is all about my little details. He cares about the notes that I write to Him in my journal. He relishes in my presence and He loves to hear me talk about what's on my heart. He laughs at all my jokes and He keeps all my secrets. He holds me when I feel alone or forgotten and constantly, constantly finds any opportunity to remind me that I am His favorite. He's kind of my favorite too.

One of my favorite things to do in life. Star gazing with loved ones on a glorious night in the country and has made life memories for me. Now reminiscing those delightful evenings with my little ADHD Korbin in his signature room under his special stars. It was a calming, safe haven for him as well as this tired mother. Many nights I would fall asleep under his
ReplyDeleteluminescent sky conversing about his adventurous day. Thanks again Shai Lady for this charming story and all of your beautiful writings!
Thank you Tammy :)
